For those interested in becoming a member of the Laker Dance Team, we still have open spots on our 2012-2013 team!  Therefore, we will be having another round of auditions on Friday, June 15th!  If you cannot make it on that date, video tryouts are accepted if recieved by Thursday, June 14th.  For more information about a video audition, email us at gvsulakerdanceteam@hotmail.com with “Video Audition” in the subject line. However, we urge everyone to attend auditions in person if at all possible.  Please see the following attachments for important information concerning tryouts.  Hope to see you there!

Try-out Waiver

We would like to announce that the Laker Dance Team is holding another round of tryouts!  As of now, we have open spots on our 2012-2013 team.  Therefore, we will have a second audition on June 15th!  It will be a one day audition consisting of a morning session, break for lunch, afternoon session, break for dinner/practice, and an evening audition with the captains and judges.  More information will be posted by Monday,  May 7th so keep checking our website and save the date!

Hi potential Laker Dance Team members!

We have received many questions about technical skill requirements for the upcoming audition . . . here are the skills we will likely ask dancers to demonstrate:

• leaps – right, left, center, tilt jumps, switch  leaps, turning centers, attitude leap,  toe touch
•  turns – right and left double pirouettes, right triple pirouette, turns in second (fouette turns)
• dancers will be asked to showcase individual strengths by demonstrating other skills such as other leaps (c-jumps, layouts, firebird leaps) extensions, leg holds, stalls, aerials or other gymnastic tricks. *You do not need to execute all of these skills perfectly.  You will be asked to pick one that you believe best demonstrates your skill to show to the judges

If you are unable to attend tryouts and would like to send in a video audition, please be sure to include the above skills in your tape as well as all the required forms and your $25 audition fee.  Multiple girls have been selected for the team from video auditions in the past, however it is still strongly recommended that arrangements be made so that dancers can be present on both days. 

Other Info/Tips:

• Remember to wear form fitting clothes for practice on Saturday, and form fitting black pants and a white top for auditions on Sunday. 
• It is recommended that hair be pulled back
• Bring snacks, money for lunch on Saturday, and water
• Have fun and smile!!

LDT Tryout Waiver

Hi all!  The GVSU Laker Dance Team will be holding auditions for the 2012-2013 season on April 28th and 29th.  Attached below is a packet full of information and required documents that are to be presented at the audition. 

2012-2013 Audition Information

Please read the packet carefully, noting the important dates listed and the required documents that need to be filled out and turned in at auditions.  These include:

• Completed waiver form
• Signed policy form (from last page of tryout packet)
• For current GVSU students: class schedule for the 2011-2012 academic year and evidence showing your GPA is an average of 2.0 or higher
• Incoming freshman or transfer students: proof your your acceptance to GVSU for the 2011-2012 academic year
• $25 non-refundable registration fee

This year at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Competition in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Laker Dance Team took home 1st place in the division II dance category, as well as placed 4th in the division II hip-hop category! The team had an amazing time and made so many great memories together. With the 2011-2012 season approaching, the Laker Dance Team has their eyes set on success and taking home another national championship title for GVSU.
